We talked to PrettyLitter subscriber Kelly D. about Dixie and here’s what they had to say:
In the summer of 2019, I moved into my apartment, but living alone wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be. My apartment was quiet and a little lonely. I grew up with big dogs my entire life, so when I made the decision to adopt a kitten, I didn’t entirely know what to expect. My only hope was that my little companion would make my house feel less empty. Luckily, fate brought me straight to Dixie.
I went to my local pet store where I knew they had an adoption program through the local shelter. There was a tiny, 8-month-old kitten I fell in love with through the glass. The adoption representative told me that the kitten was already adopted, but she had a brother at a neighboring store.
Upon arriving at the second store, I saw the brother that mirrored the first cat in the other store. This kitten was joined by a sleepy, bigger, tabby cat who had a “Hi, my name is Dixie” tag on her cage. She was beautiful and sweet, but I began filling out the paperwork to take the other kitten home. But the tabby continued to look up at me with big, green eyes as the shelter’s representative told me she spent the first six months of her life on the streets before someone brought her to the shelter. She’d spend another two months waiting for me to find her.
There was something about the tabby’s energy that drew her to me, so I crossed out the kitten’s name at the top of the adoption papers and wrote “Dixie.” I’d be taking her home. On our way home, I told Dixie that it was her and I against the world, and I promised her that we’d simply have a nice, little life together.
She has been the biggest blessing during quarantine and the natural challenges life has brought. Dixie is friendly, knows no stranger and is definitely a lover. We’ve been together for almost a year.
I feel very fortunate to use a convenient product like PrettyLitter to ensure that Dixie is staying healthy. Thanks to PrettyLitter, I was able to identify inconsistencies with her urinating habits just the other week and knew when to take her to the vet. She ended up having a medical condition that needed urgent care. Dixie has been healthy ever since!
One Fun Fact About Dixie:
Dixie is the first cat I’ve ever had!
Dixie’s Favorite Pastimes
Helping me cook, sitting on the balcony & watching Wheel of Fortune
Dixie’s Most Mischievous Behaviors
Climbing and swinging from the macrame on my wall while I’m trying to sleep. Looks like she’s trying to recreate Miley Cyrus in the Wrecking Ball video.
If your cat could have one thing unlimited for the rest of time, what would it be?
Time with me. She waits for me to get home every day, she sits with me while I shower and get dressed in the morning. Whatever I do, she’s always there right next to me. She’s my little shadow!
